Manuscript Evaluation

Rate: $80 per hour 

A manuscript evaluation is a combination of beta reading and a developmental edit. This is an opportunity for an author to have a professional editor read a  manuscript and receive detailed notes back on what is or is not working with the plot, ​characters, style, tone, world-building, and/or other elements. It is not as detailed as a full  developmental edit, but it provides more feedback and a more professional opinion when compared to friends and family who might serve as your initial beta readers. 

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is a "Big Picture" review of your manuscript. It covers editing for structure, style, tone, plot development, world building, character development, and more. 

In a development edit, you will get chapter-by-chapter notes on all of the above elements, as well as detailed, specific suggestions to address any identified issues. A developmental edit may also include a summary document that covers overall impressions and suggestions. 

Copyediting

Rate: $0.03 per word

Copyediting is the most popular editing service for authors. The most obvious aspect of this service is a line-by-line review for grammar, punctuation, and other typographical errors. Beyond that, a thorough copyedit will also include a review for clarity, syntax, and consistency with the Chicago Manual of Style, or other style guide if requested.  

Proofreading

Rate: $0.015 per word

Proofreading is not an alternative to copyediting. This service is usually done after copyediting and may be done either before or after formatting. This is a final review for any typographical errors, including any formatting errors when appropriate. No suggestions will be offered regarding clarity, nor any suggestions to sentence structure or writing style.
