Queries & Proposals

Rate: Call For Custom Quote

Query/Proposal Writing is for authors who would like to publish their book traditionally with an established publisher. This may require querying agents, or pitching a proposal to publishers directly.

Query Writing includes writing custom, tailored query letters to agents, and editing the book sample. This is the typical service for Fiction authors.

Proposal Writing includes creating a proposal template for your nonfiction manuscript. A proposal includes several sections. This can be used to pitch your book to both agents and to publishers directly (if they accept unsolicited manuscripts).

Author Coaching

Rate: $80/hour

A lot of writers, even experienced ones, need a little help with the writing process now and then. Whether it is help getting through a tricky spot or battling writer's block, Kimberly can help you make it through to the other side.

Author Coaching can take many forms. I customize my approach with each client. A few general approaches are as follows:
  • As needed: Clients will book time to talk through a sticky spot in their plot or brainstorm new ideas.
  • Weekly: Some clients prefer to discuss their project on a weekly basis. They will send the week's progress prior to the meeting for review.
  • Accountability: Finally, some clients just need help sticking to their schedule. A weekly writing schedule is determined with a weekly or semi-monthly check-in to make sure they are staying on track.

What Clients Say:

"I spent weeks turning circles over a plot hole that wouldn't go away. One thirty minute call with Kim, and I was back on track. I won't wait so long to call next time!" —Megan Haskell

"She helped me to formulate better plot structure and provided characters with far more depth and complexity. I appreciated her willingness to role up her sleeves and dig into a project—look for new/better ways to make necessary improvements." —Mark Wayne McGinnis

Ghostwriting

Rate: Call for Custom Quote

Ghostwriting, like Author Coaching, requires a customized approach for each client. However, there are a few types that can be used as a starting point:

Below are some types of ghostwriting. Please contact me for a quote.
  • Traditional Ghostwriting: This is the classic approach most people think of when they think of ghostwriting. The ghostwriter writes the book for the client based on the information provided and interviews done with the client. The client then reviews the manuscript for accuracy. The ghostwriter receives no credit or acknowledgment for writing the book. This is an expensive option, and is usually only for people who don't have the time or inclination to contribute to any of the writing themselves.
  • Partnership Ghostwriting: You've probably noticed this on a lot of celebrity books. The byline will read "Celebrity Name with Ghost Writer." In this case, the ghostwriter partners with the author to help write the book. They may do the majority of the writing. Or they may do sections. Or they may rewrite the celebrity's first draft.
  • Book Doctoring: This is where a ghostwriter comes in to significantly edit and rewrite sections of a book that need help. This often addresses issues in format and structure, as well as any issues with style and/or voice. Most authors choose this option if they are interested in ghostwriting.
  • Developmental Editing: As it says in its name, this isn't really ghostwriting. It is included here because it is usually what most authors will end up needing for their manuscript. This is also called substantive editing. It is similar to Book Doctoring, but one step down. Usually the editor will note those sections that need work and make suggestions, but then it is sent back to the author to address those issues.
